My Paper Topic - War Is A Racket - Secrets of Navy SEALs
My Paper Topic - War Is A Racket - Secrets of Navy SEALsWhen I was looking for topics for my paper on the war, I had never heard of the topics he was writing about. I decided to look up some information about him and found that he had worked with the US Navy during World War II. It turns out that he had a cover story for his WWII experience in which he had survived a Nazi minefield and had lost his left leg when he fell through the sea into the water. My research turned up some interesting stories about his experiences. Among them were his being shot by a sniper while trying to rescue downed US pilot Poindexter from a B-17. He had continued to speak of this incident for years afterward until he got the chance to interview Lieutenant Colonel Richard Dale Roush, the crew chief of the plane that had taken them out.He also wrote a book about Roush, entitled 'Roush Says', but for my project I needed to look at one of his early writings about his work in the Navy. This was the topic that I chose to investigate. His book, 'War Is A Racket: Life in the Navy,' was first published in 1949. As I thought about the subject matter, I realized that the subject of his book did not lend itself to a particularly interesting paper topic. For me, the topic of his book seemed too personal, too intimately connected to the subject of war. He was living it, so to speak, and so are all of us now. And, of course, there are those who also can be members of the Special Forces who also know the intricacies of the military profession. For my research, I used an online database to find as many samples of writings and articles as I could. I also looked for reviews of his books and articles, including a few online editorials, and received plenty of information about his work in the military. I also located some blogs and other online sources that discussed his work. One of my favorites was a post written by a Navy SEAL veteran in 2020 called 'White Salt'. In the article, the author reveals how he w as introduced to my topic:
